We can envision the love within as a radiant diamond covered by a giant pile of dirt or mulch (or some days, rubble). Embarking on the yogic path is the process of removing that dirt and reuniting with our long-lost diamond.
There are many digging tools to choose from, all guiding us to quiet our thoughts so that we may become sensitive to the light we seek. It’s through this stillness that we can sense and perceive the glow of the diamond within.
For most of us, the mind is not quiet. The noise of the mind blocks out the subtle. Out of habit, we are in our heads, perpetually thinking of the past or planning the future.
But when we come into the present moment, our attention moves into the body, specifically to the heart. Heart-centered awareness is our natural and optimal state. We can only know how we’re genuinely feeling by checking in with the heart.
When we attend to the heart through breath, postures, guided meditation, and other rituals, feelings and emotions may arise. When this happens, rather than allowing thoughts to divert our attention, we stay with emerging emotions by breathing, softening, and feeling.
