Being present sounds like a simple idea, however most people tend to struggle with this idea. To be present, really present, you need to consciously observe your thoughts and activities.
Doing so, this will allow you to go through your day-to-day life with ease, compassion, an open heart and an open mind.
6 tips to live and be present in the moment:
1. Smile
Every day is filled with an opportunity for you and the best way to start that day would be with a smile. Putting on a smile will make you feel so much better about yourself and improve your mindset positively.
2. Fully appreciate your day
Take in everything today has to offer you - the sounds, the sights, the highs, the lows. Just take it in and appreciate it.
3. Enjoy where you are
It is time to enjoy, love and appreciate where you are. There was a point in time you were wishing to be in the position you are currently in. So just enjoy that! Don’t think about the next destination the whole time, being present is about the journey - not the destination.
4. Celebrate the tiny joys in life
Be proud and celebrate the little moments as if they were big ones. This will keep you grounded in your reality and bring gratitude to your everyday life.
5. Reduce distractions
It is time to be completely present when it comes to your own relaxation time. Don’t distract it with scrolling through your phone and getting lost in facebook or the news. It doesn’t matter. Switch off your phone, or switch off notifications and read that book you have sitting on your bookshelf. Call your friend. Be present and aware of how you spend your precious time.
6. Reflect on your day
Reflecting on your day by journaling is an excellent way to stay present. You can write down a few things you’re grateful for and this will allow you to reflect on the day you had.
Eckhart Tolle suggests that each time you wash your hands throughout the day, you bring your attention into your body. Feel the water on your hands, notice your breath, and relax the muscles in your face and shoulders. Come back to the present moment.
